Yes, it’s that time of life when everything seemed to be getting on top of me. It was the dreaded “Change” or was it? My body was resisting my continued weight-loss efforts. I was counting calories, pounding the gym and reducing my afternoon snack to six walnuts! … and still the pounds wouldn’t shift.
Like many women of my age and career, I was burning the candle at both ends – I had two lovely children, a husband who travelled a lot and I was a working mother commuting from Balham to Mayfair, trying to be all things to all people.
First stop was the GP told me weight loss was a matter of simple mathematics.
“Eat less and exercise more,” she said, before suggesting an antidepressant and birth control pill.
At first, I was a bit humiliated, but then I got angry because I knew in my gut that she was wrong. It didn’t feel right to pop a load of pills, so I turned to advice from a friend because my hunch was that my hormones were out of whack, and that’s why I was suffering with my weight, low energy and generally feeling like crap. She said that Heidi’s office was around the corner from my office in Mayfair, and her hormone balance therapy was the talk of her office!
It took me 25 days to turn my life around, but when I did, I felt like myself again – happy, free and curious about the world instead of angry and resentful. Heidi made me realise that hormones dictate what your body does with food, stress and activity and that realisation changed everything.
Heidi mentioned in our sessions that many women like me find it very difficult to lose weight after they reach menopause. They often find that the same tricks, plans and exercises to lose weight no longer work. This may be because my thyroid is slowing down, or my testosterone fell off a cliff.
I am now eating better, sleeping better, my gut feels better, and I’m not the big bad wolf of the office.
I am now using Heidi in my professional life to help with confidence and organising my life.
